Dear Meditators

I am delighted to write to you again to keep you informed of developments and upcoming events in the life of our Christian Meditation community in Singapore.

Group Leaders Gathering

On Sunday 2 August, we had our quarterly group leaders gathering. We were privileged to have the presence of Fr Frans De Ridder, particularly when the day was the 45th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. Fr Frans gave a teaching on "Why We Meditate". He shared from his own experience how meditation is the way in which we come into the presence of God and dwell in His love.

Medio Media has made available on DVD an interview of Fr Frans by Fr Laurence Freeman entitled Marriage Priesthood Meditation. Fr Frans speaks about the transforming effect of meditation on his priestly life and about its value to spousal and family relationships. Also available soon on audio CD will be a collection of short talks on meditation by Fr Frans. More information is available from This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. WCCM Singapore Website

We now have our own website: It was launched on 2 August. I encourage you to visit it.

Introductory Workshops

At Holy Family Church in Katong, we will be holding an introductory workshop on Tuesday 1 September and 8 September. Thereafter, participants can join an on-going weekly introductory meditation group on Tuesday evenings. The purpose of this group will be to focus on newcomers who need a grounding in the essential teaching on meditation and group support to develop the discipline of regular meditation. At the Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea in Yishun, we will be conducting a three-session introductory workshop on Monday 14, 21 and 28 September. Details are available on our website

Cardinal Jean Margeot

On 17 July, we received the sad news of the passing of Cardinal Jean Margeot at the age of 93. His Eminence was instrumental in the formation of the Christian Meditation community in Mauritius. In 1997, he invited me and others from our Singapore to go to Mauritius to share the gift of meditation there. Subsequently, he integrated meditation into his prayer life and taught what he was practising. He started several weekly groups and translated teaching materials into French. His close friend Fr Robert Bathfield shared with us that towards the end he had asked the Cardinal: "Your Eminence, how do you pray?" The answer was "I pray the rosary, and I stay quiet in the presence of the Lord." In his condolence message to the Mauritian community, Fr Laurence Freeman said, "The world and the Church is diminished by his departure. He was a man and spiritual leader of such humanity and humility, and that was his authority — of a Christ-like love."

With the peace and love of the Lord,
